Vitebsk State Medical University to open its branch in Sri Lanka in 2008

Vitebsk State Medical University intends to open its branch in Sri Lanka, BelTA learnt from university rector Valery Deikalo.
The project provides for distant learning and full-time preparation courses. Initially around 60 young Sri Lankians are expected to be admitted to the courses. If they pass final tests, they will be enrolled in Vitebsk Medical University. In such a way, the university will able to select most talented students and to guarantee that Sri Lanka will get specialists of highest qualifications, Valery Deikalo noted. According to the rector, many foreign universities are engaged in the export of educational services. Vitebsk State Medical University intends to develop this kind of activity as well.
“The project of Vitebsk Medical University was supported by the Sri Lankian President as it is aimed at promoting friendly relations between the two countries,” Sri Lankian specialists noted.
More than 400 foreign citizens are enrolled in Vitebsk State Medical University. One hundred of them are from Sri Lanka. The university received first students from that country in 1982.
